• I am a musician and I would like to post dozens of my recordings on the internet for people to listen to.

I would like to organize these recordings by the various band names that I have been in, and then by the album names or practice sessions.

I would like anybody to be able to hear certain specific recordings of good performances, but restrict access to other recordings for example to only musicians who participated in a practice session could hear those recordings.

I asked a web developer how to do this on my own website, and he suggested that I try doing it with wordpress because it already is setup to manage membership levels.

I am not interested in blogs, photos, calanders, etc at this time. Can I use wordpress to do what I want with music?

Yes, though you need a plugin to play music ON your site.

You also need plugins to manage membership levels for who can hear what music etc.

OK, so with wordpress, s2member, and streampad I could create a site so that people could come and hear my music.

How would I learn to set my site up for this behavior. I would like any visitor to my website to be presented with a list of songs that they could see and play. I would like others to be able to create their own membership where I would then assign them to a specific user role. After being assigned a role they could then login to see and play a list of songs that are accessible only to users of that role. I would like to have multiple user roles each with their own unique list of songs. Some songs could belong to more than one role.
