Create user account based on email address without password?

    Is there a way to let visitors subscribe to websites without password like this plugin does- quicksubscribe ? The plugin creates the user account with a random password just accepting the email-address.

    That plugin is too old and I would like to know if there is a code snippet or alternative plugin available for that functionality.
