Create styled Sidbar?

I am trying to create a stylized sidebar, one that looks like something like what is shown on this demo page:

I’ve downloaded different plugins but none seem to allow me to style it very much at all. Does anyone know if there is a plugin that will help with styling a sidebar or will have I to code this?
