    Hi there,

A friend of mine has got a wordpress blog she uses for her business but she’d like to set up a new wordpress website using the same URL.

How can she build and create a new website (with the plan to replace her blog) but without it interfering with her old site in the meantime? I hope my question makes sense and you can advise.

    Thank you ??

  • You need to create a Staging Environment, which is just a fancy name for another installation of WordPress that you can work on without it affecting your live site.

I personally prefer to install WordPress locally on my PC using XAMPP, it works in exactly the same way as it would if it were online.

You can then backup databases/theme/xml and restore it on your live site whilst it is in maintenance mode for a short time, keeping downtime to a minimum.

You can also use a plugin that claims to simplify the process of backing up your database etc. in preparation for a new staging environment WP Staging, it seems quite popular.

    Hope this helps.
