I have WordPress installed in the root directory of my main website.

I have registered a new domain name and am hosting it in a sub-directory of the main site. So I have, say, https://www.mainsite.co.uk/newsite/

When I create a new WordPress site, it will only point to the root directory (mainsite.co.uk/) I cannot get it to point to the subdirectory.

Also, when I try to create a post, it will only create in the main site. There does not appear to be an option to post to the new site.

    Have I missed something, please?

Just to be clear, I do not want the second site to be part of the main site. I do not want posts to be shared unless I choose to do so. These are to be separate websites.

You mean a new site on your network? Or the basic WP install?

Default Multisite – Content is not shared between sites. You’re fine.

    Hello Mika,

Thank you for your response. I made the mistake of not installing the network plugin and this caused the above problems. Therefore, that part is now resolved.

However, I now have a problem connecting to the dashboard of my new site because it keeps telling me that I have to enable cookies. I have tried a considerable number of tweaks, but nothing seems to work. I even have my host provider working on it. So if you have any ideas I would be grateful.

    Regards,

    Michael

There is no ‘network plugin’ for WordPress Multisite. What plugin did you install? Please provide a link to it, if possible.

    Sorry. Badly worded.

    It’s the domain mapping plugin:

Aha! Thank you ?? As you can guess, words and the terms we use here are important.

    1) Delete all the cookies on your browser. Yeah, I know, but sometimes they get stupid.

    2) Did you set the domain as the primary for the sites in the mapping plugin?

    3) On the Domain Mapping Configuration page, what options did you check?

    Hello Mika,

Thank you for the suggestions. I have managed to get things working, finally. I’m not sure about everything that I did, but I have a system that does what I need, for now, so I’m happy with that.

As you can guess, this is all new to me. I used to run computer help desk, but that was 15 years ago, when you had version of Windows that you could kick into shape! I have lost track of developments and have spent the last few years trying to catch up.

Anyway, as I said, I now have a system that does what I currently need, so thank you for your kind and valuable assistance.

    Michael
