All my customers check out as guests for ease of use and fewer reasons to drop the sale. However, I create a few orders manually (phone, social media etc.). I had third-party stock management software integrated with my site, so I have never needed to create a new order in WC, but I am letting that software go. So, now I have the problem of not being able to add a customer to the order because none of them are registered users.

Is there any way around this?

I don’t want to make users register, as it creates more work for me and customers. It creates more ways for things to go wrong and miss out on orders when “I can’t log in’ happens (as it invariably does).

    Hello Lindsay Whitehead,

Thank you for reaching out to WooCommerce support with your query about creating orders for customers who check out as guests.

I understand that you’re looking for a way to manually create orders without requiring customers to register on your site to maintain ease of use and maximize your sales conversions.

Currently, in WooCommerce, when creating an order manually by navigating to WooCommerce > Orders and clicking Add Order, you indeed have the option to create an order for a Guest user. You can simply fill in the customer’s billing and shipping details without having to link the order to a registered user’s account.

To clarify, you do not have to associate an order with a registered customer; WooCommerce allows for manual order creation for guest users. This way, you maintain convenience for your customers by not forcing them to register, and you also can fulfill orders taken via alternate channels like phone or social media.

If you need further guidance with manually creating orders or any other WooCommerce features, please do not hesitate to ask. I am here to assist you in making the most out of your WooCommerce store. ??

    Best regards.

    Hi Zubair,

Thanks for the reply. Indeed, I didn’t think I could do this, but found the edit button on the address field today. So I can do what you suggested. However, it’s not what I wanted.

I have thousands of customer’s details in my database from previous orders, but they are all guests (not registered users), so I can’t add their details to a new order other than doing it totally manually each time.

If they were registered users, it would be easy. I don’t understand why I can’t do the same for any user since the data is all there for me to see.

    Hi @lindsaywhitehead,

I understand your concern about the manual process of adding customer details for each new order.

Currently, WooCommerce allows easy order creation options for registered users but requires manual input for guest users.

However, if you have your customer database stored in a CSV file, you can use a plugin like the Customer/Order/Coupon CSV Import Suite. This extension allows you to import customer data from a CSV file, which could save you time when creating new orders for existing customers.

Alternatively, you may seek help from the following to build a custom solution for you:

I wish I could help more, but hopefully, this gets you going in the right direction to get the job done.
