Hey there, I am looking for a modern gallery plugin and obviously stumbled across Modula.

It reads “Create image and video galleries” with the Lite version.

After installing the plugin, video seems to be a pro feature?!?

Maybe I need to elaborate why this is important to test for me. I am looking to build a self hosted video gallery that has social media sharing links.

Other plugins seem to struggle with the open graph messaging and shared videos. They use the same og:image as the thumbnail when sharing a video from a self hosted gallery.

While it seems that FB and others cache the og:image, when I share a video from Youtube, it always passes on the correct thumbnail.

Is that impossible from self hosted galleries? Or will Modula pass on the open graph data per video and when sharing we get the correct thumbnail?

I am aware that creating a gallery of videos from Youtube would hand over all the sharing to Youtube. But I thought I dig into self hosting and social media sharing.

    Hello @alframe,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

In order to add videos to your galleries you need to use our Modula Video extension. It is included in our Basic plan. Here is our pricing list: https://wp-modula.com/pricing/

In the unlikely event that Modula just isn’t for you, let us know and we’ll give you a full refund within the first 14 days of your purchase.
Here is our documentation for the extension: https://wp-modula.com/kb/modula-video/. At the bottom of the page you will see how you can add self-hosted videos in your gallery.

You can either share your images or your videos. To share your images you need to go to your WP dashboard > Modula > edit your gallery > Social > Enable Social bar > choose the platforms you need; to share your videos you need to go to your WP dashboard > Modula > Edit > Lightbox & Links > enable the ‘Share button’ option.

Here is a demo with a YouTube video gallery: https://demo.wp-modula.com/?modula-gallery=youtube-videos here is one with self-hosted videos: https://demo.wp-modula.com/?modula-gallery=self-hosted-videos. You can also see in the demos the social sharing options I told you about.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

    Warmly,
    Beatrice

    Hey Beatrice,

    Thank you for the info.

This looks really good. The self hosted videos from your link actually are shareable with the correct preview thumbnail. However, when I click the share icon while the video is playing in the lightbox, no thumbnail goes through. Just a gray box with the link.

Which is fair. I discovered on my research about this that FB tends to ignore what it is fed (pun intended). They cache things and most of the times don’t look back.

I have a solution in place with which we will run for now. Depending on how the project goes, I will re-visit all options and rebuild the galleries again.

    Thanks again & Cheers,
    Alex
