• I have 68 posts that have a featured image and a description of the inventory (trailers). I would like to display the information under the image in a 3 column gallery. I DO NOT prefer to use a plugin (the one in the link is to get a general idea), and would rather use the default gallery in WordPress as it is how I add SEO info and tags to the posts. I feel I have done this before but don’t remember how at this point. Please advise and thank you for your help in advance.

  • Without a plugin, any gallery you create would not be posts. It would be images. But since you say that you put the information in the description of the image, then it would show in the standard gallery (shortcode).

If you are using Classic editor or a Classic block, you can click on Add Media and create a gallery, choosing all the images that you’ve already got assigned to posts.
If you are in the block editor and choose a gallery block, you can choose the images and use different captions than are saved in the media library (they are specific to the post of the gallery).
Both of these methods of galleries are about images, not posts, so they will not link to the post that they are the featured image for. You would need a plugin for that. But the theme showing a list of posts, like a category, will usually show the featured image linked to the post.
