• Hi all,

I’ve been working on my site, https://www.cinedelphia.com, for about six months, editing the original theme (Twentyten) without creating a child theme. I’ve been avoiding WP updates since they wipe out the settings/edits that I’ve been making on the theme, but I want to start updating and I’m stuck with what to do not knowing what the outcome will be.

The first thing I’m doing is backing up my site. I’m copying all of my site’s files/folders to my desktop and will do the phpMyAdmin thing next. Then I’ll create a child theme, what will happen since I’ve been editing the original theme for so long? More importantly, what will happen when I update the site? Any info/advice is greatly appreciated.

    Best,
    Eric B.

  • I think I can help by comparing all the files in your modified theme to the original theme and providing a list of those that changed.

I have the same problem but with F8-Lite.
    Did you solve it?

You need to grab a copy of the original theme, and do a compare on all the files you’ve edited and put those changed files in your child theme (except for functions.php, which you would only have the functions you added in your child theme). Make a backup of your current 2010 theme just in case.
