Hi, Im just checking if this is a bug or by design.

When the shopper ticks the ‘create an account’ checkbox on the new block-based checkout, no password field appears. therefore the customer creates an account, but has no password to log-in.

Ive had customers complain about this, as it results in them requiring a password reset to get a password. Which is a pain in the bum. Since then, I have changed the settings to have the system email the customer with a link to set their password, but they still complain that it’s a faff compared to setting a password on the page…

is this a bug? or is this by design?

    Hi @rockso,

The checkout block doesn’t seem to support the password field by default. However, you can switch to the classic checkout block or use the shortcode and enable the option for customers to add their own passwords when creating an account. Here’s how you can do it:

    • Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Accounts and Privacy and deselect “When creating an account, send the new user a link to set their password”.
    • Go to Pages > All Pages and open the checkout page. Either switch to the classic block or remove the whole block and add the checkout shortcode.

I hope this helps! Please let us know how it goes or if you need further assistance.

Hi, no worries.. It was explained to me by Woocommerce support that it is by design now, as part of tests to create less friction on the checkout… (which kinda doesn’t work, from a customer perspective, it causes more friction/confusion).

Trying to stick with block based ATM, rather than legacy.

I created a quick workaround by adding onscreen instructions for the shopper, under the tickbox for ‘create an account’

    Hi @rockso,

Your workaround of adding onscreen instructions is an excellent solution for now.

However, it would be great to have you add your feedback as a feature request, which is where developers go to look for future plugin features and improvements.

Meanwhile, I will mark this thread as resolved. Should you have further inquiries, kindly create a new topic here.

    Thanks!

Just a quick update,?a feature request?has been submitted about this, over?at GitHub (#45794), and the related?documentation?on what is currently possible with account sign-up while checking out can be found?linked here. Cheers!
