Hi, I would like to change into a new wordpress theme in my existing domain without deleting my present layout. Once completed, I would then remove the “old layout” into the new theme. Would it possible ?

You can have as many themes as you want installed, so that’s not going to be a problem. The only problem is that you can only have one theme active at a time. But, there is a way for you to get around this a little bit.

In the ‘Appearance’ menu under ‘Themes’ you can select ‘Live Preview’ under available themes and see what they look like without affecting your current theme. Then when you’re ready you can activate the new theme.

Like catacaustic said, you can preview the look of a new theme before activating it, but you will have to again place the layout (positioning) of your widgets where you want them after you have switched to a new theme…and then WordPress will remember those placements for each theme if you might decide to switch back.

    Hi folks,

would it be possible to upload information (eg images, description, videos etc.) into the new theme without activating it?

No. Anything you upload like that is theme-independant – unless it’s part of the themes options which will only show when you have that theme activated.
