• Ok, i had this working fine a month ago but i’ve been heavily chaning my site, adding “plugins” and what not… and i just went to test everything and somewhere along the lines my geo setup got messed up.
    I’m running WordPress 1.2 Mingus.
I have it set so that in every post it displays a link that says “where’s ahren” and the url for the link points to mapquest and uses the lat & long values to display a map of where I am…
Here’s the problem. When i try to compose a new blog, and enter in my coords, they aren’t saved. I’ve tried typing and then hitting Publish, tried typing and hitting save, and tried typing and hitting save and continue editing… none of them save the values. Unless I do it twice.
If i go into options and set a default value, then it shows up when i try to post and the link works fine… hippity hoop. However, if i go to type a new post and try to edit these, the new numbers aren’t saved… unless I do it twice…
I’ve uploaded fresh copies of post.php and edit-form-advanced.php and it doesn’t help.
Basically when i’m at /blog/wp-admin/post.php it won’t update the values… until i try it once and the url changes to something like: /blog/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=87
Do you have any ideas of whats up?

Another point… which basically is the same as the first…. on my edit-form.advanced, i have two custom fields that are in their own category Location and Country… this is for a plug in… but i can’t get these two fields to save at all…. however if i go down to the normal place for Custom fields, i can select Location or Country and enter a value and it works fine… Ideas?

I’d give a hand as I used to use the geo stuff but it will be history in 1.3 and I am using 1.3-alpha now.
To do what you would like to do would not be hard at all to do with a hack.

Beel, I have it all working… it’s just that when i try to save my coords , they don’t save… otherwise everything works perfect. why is the geo stuff going to be history?

I guess not enough people were using it to maintain as a feature and I think plugins were thought to perhaps be a better route – but that is just a guess on my part.
I am not sure why it is not saving as it was working on my 1.2 version (when I had it). Given the direction WP is taking, I would look at creating something or using one of the plugins/hacks available.
You could easily create a quicktag that builds the link to mapquest in each post or even use the custom tag feature.

while I greatly thank you for taking time to respond, the reason i need to use the coord system as it is, is so that my plug in works… it’s the plug in where on the current top post, there is a link that says Mouse over for Map and that brings up a generated map of the area i am at…. Looks like i may need to do a complete reinstall…

How much of the GEO stuff will be gone? Will it not even have a lattitude and longitude field anymore? For some sites out there, this is pretty critical stuff.

I was just playing around a bit with Rich’s plugin – it would be nice if it worked on the custom field and had some additional format capability. I look forward to seeing what comes out after WP 1.3 is released and the replacement scurry begins ??

The Geo stuff will be moved into a new location plugin that will be shipped with WordPress. It will gain some new features in the process. If you have the Geo stuff enabled in 1.2, it will still work in 1.3 after you upgrade.

I was struck with just how good that sounded. Now I am really looking forward to seeing what it looks like and how it works. I guess I will check the CVS twice a day now ??

Rboren, thanks for the quick reply. Any chance of getting an anticipated change list added to the dev blog?
