What happens when I ask Google to crawl and index using sitemaps? Are images going to be created when it crawls, which will take a long time? Or are images detected as not there?

I have over 150,000 images (in original sizes, before other sizes are created), so making sizes dynamically is attractive, but I am checking what downsides there may be for SEO.

Images are created when the page is requested for the first time. Whether it is you, or a user or a search bot.

When a page containing new images is requested for the first time, it is created on the fly. So if you have many dynamic images on the page, and if the Google bot is the first one to reach the page, then it will take some time to first crop the images and then give a response to the bot.

So you can use it according to your discretion.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks, it is what i expected. So if i want google to crawl all my 10,000 pages, making images on the fly may not be such a good idea, and I ought to get more storage.
