• Blog completely crashed when updating a theme’s function.php, can’t even get back to wp-admin page. Not sure what’s happening.

    Anybody?

    White screen of death.

Can’t load the blog, can’t load wp-admin or wp-login. Blog was literally fine and working 25 minutes ago, then one change to functions.php and the whole thing is gone.

    Anybody heard of this?

This likely indicates a problem with the PHP code – if you just updated functions.php and then it led to this, there’s a good chance it’s the new code that’s the problem.

Hopefully you made a backup copy of the file before you began editing (always a good idea) – if so, just restore that backup copy.

If not, you may need to re-download your blog’s theme and manually update to the original functions.php file. You’ll lose any customizations that you’ve made.

    Thank you ahockley.

I can certainly revert the functions.php but I can’t even log into the back end of the blog – meaning the login page won’t even load. Do you know of some way to resolve that?

    btw

    Using:
    WordPress 4.0
    Chrome Version 38.0.2125.111

You’ll need to either use FTP/SFTP to connect to your web host and upload the file that way, or possibly access a file manager utility through their control panel.
