• My hosting provider supplies cPanel for admin and WordPress as an add-on script.
I installed and all worked fine, but I was tinkering with the settings and ultimately ruined the install so I couldn’t administer it.
    So, I decided to re-install.
I uninstalled via the web-based admin console and deleted the database.
Now, however, I cannot re-install. I don’t get any errors on the install, but the web page I am taken to after the install is empty, rather than providing a confirmation.
When I go to the blog site, I get the following error:

    ***************************************************
    Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at [% mysql.wp.sqlhost %]. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

    * Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
    * Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
    * Are you sure that the database server is running?

If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.
    *******************************************************

    Any guidance here?

  • Did you use Fantastico to do the install? If so you will probably not be able to fix this yourself. You will need to have your hosting provider go in and delete the entire thing and reset it for you. I’ve found that fantastico and other auto installers can sometimes “lock” files so that your account no longer has rights to delete or edit them–thus requiring your hosting provider to go in and fix this. That’s your best bet.

Harknell, thanks for the advice. I’ll contact my host (avahost). I’ll report back the results.
