I am currently working on a site that has had Sensei setup for awhile. It has around 40 courses with each containing 5-6 lessons and a quiz. Each of the courses has a prerequisite for another course and when someone signs up they can progress through all the courses from start to finish.

I have been asked about the possibility of limiting access to the courses. Say they want to give someone access to only Lessons 5-10 or only Lessons 17-18. I have looked through the documentation, but I’m not really clear on how to achieve this. Should I enable the “Don’t allow self-enrollment” on each course and then create different cohorts to give access to only what is needed?

Any help in understanding how to achieve this is appreciated.

It’s not possible to limit access to specific lessons to certain individuals, as all the lessons are available to students once they have enrolled in the course.

However, you can use the Block Visibility settings in the lessons to limit who can see the content.

Sorry, I just realized I mistyped what I meant. I said “Lessons”, but I meant courses. I need the ability to give students access to only some of the courses instead of a students having access to all.

In that case, you could first disable self enrolment in the course settings so students can’t enroll themselves to courses:

Next, you cam go the Sensei LMS > Groups. After creating the group, you can auto enroll the group to specific courses through the Groups and Cohorts page:
