Updated to Version 2.8.3 recently, and noticed that the counts are no longer displayed correctly on the front end of the website. Only the manually keyed in figures are still displayed. All the others are either displaying “0”, or are completely blank.

If you take a look at the widget on the side bar, only the counts of RSS, email and LinkedIn are displayed. RSS and LinkedIn are keyed in manually, hence it’s displayed properly. Don’t know how email is tracked, but it seems to be working (I think). Google+ and Twitter is showing “0”, while Facebook is completely blank.

Prior to updating to this version, Facebook is correctly showing “139”, and Twitter is correctly showing “18”. Google+ is the only wildcard, as it sometimes shows “3”, and other times shows “0”. For the record, I have 99 followers on Google+.

I know that displaying the number of followers on social media isn’t crucial, but it does have a psychological effect on how the website is perceived by the visitors.

  • Thank you for reporting this, we’ll investigate.

For Facebook counts we found a bug, fixed it, and will upload a new plugin version on Monday.

For all others: could you please share which information you entered in the admin area, so that we can replicate it?

Thank you for your prompt reply. And thank you for solving the Facebook counter problem too. As for the others, the details are as below :-

    Twitter
    Consumer Key – 5xrgTSKwZmmN2PuVSEQI8OP9E
    Consumer Secret – uB9X3SFWfzKdjPU7SqjwaDQHtxxYB7cl7JQDu6nYakhobV28BR
    Access Token – 4065872304-0ne8TKpWdhKtORy6BND0UBONI53d7Hap8kFcpiz
    Access Token Secret – 4rSIfjb07TLNowZdVGtV1HFvzMxAXexd4bKAAe7R08RGr

    Google+
    Google API Key – AIzaSyCGpy7sbl7WhdybTZeok_odwl8eYUv62UU

Looking forward to the new update. Cheers.

    Update:

Twitter: Access token is expired – please generate a new one.

Google: You need to fill the Google Plus profile link in the “visit us”-field under question 2. Otherwise it will not work. Could you please double check if you did that?

    Twitter
Generated new access tokens. Seems to be working fine after the update.

    Google+
I checked the “Visit Us” field. The URL stated there was slightly different from the actual profile page (http instead of https). Anyway, I’ve already made the necessary changes there, and updated the API key at the same time. The counter seems to be working fine now.

Thanks for the pointer. Looking forward to the new update to fix the Facebook problem too. Cheers.

P/S – One other problem, the counters for both Twitter and Google+ seems to be displaying the correct numbers while I’m still logged into my WordPress account. But the moment I log out, both the numbers go back to displaying “0” once again. I tried to clear the browser cache, but it still shows “0”. Is this a problem? Or is there some other residual cache somewhere that’s still displaying something from the recent past memory?

Yes, I think it’s cache. Please observe in the coming days.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I’ll continue to monitor is over the next few days. Hopefully by the time the updated plugin is available, this problem would have disappeared.

Uploaded new plugin version with Facebook count issue fixed – please check.
