Counting WP Plugin Downloads…

    If I understand correctly, each time someone downloads a plugin from the WP Plugin Directory (the big red download link on each plugin’s page) the internal counter records it as +1 on the Stats tab/pane. Cool. Ok, assuming that’s the way it works…

    Can I place that same direct-download link on my website for my visitors to download my plugin? Or, do I need to first link to the WP Plugin Directory page for my plugin, and have them download it there? If I can direct-link, will the counter still increase, or does the +1 accrue only when the visitor downloads from the WP Plugin Dir page?

    You can link directly and the counter will increase
