• I’ve been slowly working on my music blog/website. I use it for hosting local and national DJ mixes plus general info about the local music scene. I’ve got my own theme going….. I’ve self taught myself everything via LOTS of google and wordpress. Thing is I can’t realize what I don’t know unless I get an outside eye every now and then. So I wouldn’t mind someone taking a glance and just letting me know if there’s serious flaws or anything I could be doing that would make my site look better….. I’m just asking for learning sake really……

    It’s the Voodoo Empire website

Definitely not too nitpicky, I’m really trying to tweak this to the best of my ability. 2 of the things you pointed out, the stars and the nav menu are things I plan to work on. I’m just starting to learn how to implement these on my own. Currently the stars and the menu are plugins using defaults. I’m going to do my own menus very soon, and definitely change the ratings icons, probably to make use of my own logo. I think the idea of having some of the menu both above and below the header image is pretty darn good. And the social thing is also running on defaults, I think fewer is fine, and possible I’d like to rediesign the icons some…. They don’t really fit in with the theme too much. Anyway, thanks so much for your input, I’m gonna work on dome of this right now I think.

There we go, slimmed the banner pic, and reworked the rating system to actually fit the theme. Next up is a redone nav bar. Get that down to one level, with tabs that fit into the theme better. Soon as I google that enough to understand what I’m doing, it’ll be up! Also, the text doesn’t fit well, its still the colours from the old version of the theme….I have such a hard time picking colours, but once I do, that’s an easy fix.

RVoodoo: if you are using the WP-PostRatings plugin, then you can easily change from gif to png, instructions are here: https://lesterchan.net/wordpress/readme/wp-postratings.html. That’s how I had done it for a client and on my own personal project; I think I also had to move rename the images.

yup, I’d actually already changed them to images of my own that are png’s. I never really liked the gold stars at all, they just didn’t fit with the theme. thanks

well…for those following along at home…lol

I’d say it’s basically a done deal now. I’m gonna spend the next hour tweaking text colours, but other than that, all the elements are in place.

I’m sure I’ll find myself adjusting shades and colours here and there til I’m completely happy, but overall now, I’m diggin this. Hell of a learnin experience, wow…
