Nextgen gallery is not able to upload any file. It replies with: “Could not write to file. Please check filesystem permissions” I search on the forum and tried all suggested solutions:
    change file permissions
    deactivate all plugings
    change thema
    using small files
nothing works. Is there a solution?
    Thanks
    Claudia

    Hi @cruisefan,

Can you please let us know what is the format of images that you want to upload?
Also, can you please confirm that you aren’t using any custom Front page fro your site that isn’t a regular WP page ( for example a custom index.html in your domain’s root or a coming soon mode )?

I tried all small size (48Kb) up to large files of 4Mb. The website is a regular website with an generated template from artiseer. I changed the theme to 21 no effect.
    The url to the website:

@cruisefan what is the format of the images? is it JPG, PNG? those are the only 2 formats the plugin supports.

    Hello,

The format of the images is all JPG.

    Hello @cruisefan,

First of all, I would like you to take a look at our requirements.
Please, feel free to check if you meet all of them with your hosting provider:
    https://www.imagely.com/docs/requirements/

    About those permissions
Could you please do the following on your site and let us know if that works for you?

    – For all folders and subfolders, permission should be 755 or 750.
    – All files should have permission 644 or 640 except wp-config.php file.
    – 440 or 400 for wp-config.php file.

We also have some documentation with the main known uploading errors, please, feel free to test the available solutions https://www.imagely.com/docs/known-uploading-errors/

Please, keep us posted, we are happy to help!

    Hi,

I Tried all (All rights are set via control panel to read and write) nothing works. I have to check with the provider for the php.ini setting however I really doubt this because it has functioned well. I cannot set via FTP the permissions. regards Claudia

    Hi @cruisefan,

Can you please open your images using any image editing software and just save those without having to change anything then try to upload those “saved” images again to NextGen to see if this will change anything? By saving the images, it will update the images’ meta data ( which sometime causes images to fail to upload via NextGen )

I have solved the problem with some help and after intensive try and error.

    The website had 3 galleries:

Uploading or changing those galleries was not possible. Whatever I tried with rights, renaming, etc. Nothing worked

However when I created a new gallery everything goes well.

So I looked in the database and noticed the following paths (table ngg_galery)

    \\wp-content\\gallery\\proces/

    \\wp-content\\gallery\\projecten/

    \\wp-content\\gallery\\mogelijkheden/

    wp-content/gallery/test/

I changed the backslashes into forward slash and EUREKA it worked.

The moment I add a new files in those galleries than the database looked likes this

    wp-content\\gallery\\proces/

    wp-content\\gallery\\projecten/

    wp-content\\gallery\\mogelijkheden/

    wp-content/gallery/test/

So my conclusion is that for some unknown reasons, the software has added a double backslash BEFORE the wp-content folder

Can you explain why this has happened? And is there a risk that it will happen again?

It’s difficult to conclude why you were experiencing this particular issue. Sometimes it is related to specific settings in your environment.

We’ll mark this ticket as resolved. Thank you for letting us know.
