Could not establish a secure connection to www.remarpro.com.

    Hey all, I need some help here. I just installed MAMP and WP on my Mac. The install went perfect and I’m able to login into the website and all. However, when I try to install a plugin or a theme it gives me this message:

    An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with www.remarpro.com or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.

    Then if I click on the ‘Add New” button again, the message goes away and it will show me the browser button to get the theme or plugin and I am able to install it fine. Then, when I try to activate the theme, it goes to a page that says:

    This page isn’t working localhost didn’t send any data.
    ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE

    Also, worth mentioning that while this is happening, the site is loading REALLY slow… it takes like 10 seconds to load a page.

    I’m very new to installing all this in my localhost but I managed to find the php error log, but I have no idea what to do with it.

  • It’s right in this line:

    WordPress could not establish a secure connection to www.remarpro.com. Please contact your server administrator.

    This happens a lot to me when working in localhost with a wonky internet connection. It’s basically saying that WordPress (on your local machine, that is) is reaching out to www.remarpro.com, but can’t connect securely. (HTTPS takes up a bit more bandwidth than plain HTTP.)

    The only solution I’ve found is to get a better internet connection. Sometimes bad weather causes this for me, and it’s just a matter of waiting.

    As for the ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE error, I’m not entirely sure. I haven’t run into that one yet. But I bet a stronger internet connection may make that go away as well.

    @kjodle thanks much for your response. Yep, you’re absolutely right. The wifi here is crappy. I used my iPhone hotspot and the theme activated in 3 seconds and plugins got installed.

    I’m having the same issue, NOT on a local server. It’s my server, in that I’m not shared on GoDaddy or something. This is the only site out of dozens that is having the issue. WP 4.9.1, tried turning off all plugins, reverting to default WP theme, etc. Host says connection is fine, newest SQL, etc.
