Could not edit email address or see email address in profile

When trying to edit profile ([username]?um_action=edit), the email address field would not show. There is no option anywhere in the UM interface to enable editing of email address (some old support responses indicated there was an option for that, but that option seems to have been eliminated). I found another answer that said to edit a “core” folder file named “class-fields.php”. I found that file and edited it to eliminate the “user_email” field from a list of prohibited fields.

First of all, that is a very complex and somewhat inaccessible way to make this very reasonable change in behavior, to allow a user to update their own email address.

Secondly, now that I made the change and it works, I am concerned that with each new update of UM, my fix will be overwritten each time and I will repeatedly need to go and edit, if I even remember what I did and if I am still the one in charge of the technology.

Can you add that option back to the interface, or provide some other way to make this option more stable and accessible?
