Corrupted Theme?

  • I have read recently some horror stories of corrupted ‘free’ themes.
    I installed Colorway, but honestly can’t remember if I installed it from within WordPress or from one of these ‘freebie’ sites.
    Is there some way I can confirm this?
    Or if not, in view of the wise guidance from the Forum to instal a Child Theme (which I did), will it be possible for me to delete my Colorway Theme and reinstall it from within WordPress without losing all my hard work?

    Yes, of course I can find it here, which is why I asked the question.
    The point is that I don’t remember if I got it from here or somewhere else.

    So I need to confirm that the Colorway Theme which I have installed actually came from this source or from some other source.

    Easiest thing to do is look in the theme folder for a read me file. There will be a author and URL.

    There is a readme.txt file, license.txt file and changelog.txt file in the themes folder. The readme.txt file reads as follows (no author or URL listed) apart from the support link.
    Nothing remarkable in any of these files. I would be more interested if there was some registration code/file on installation within the WordPress framework which may record where the theme came from.

    To Install Colorway Theme, Put the "colorwaytheme" directory in your wp-content/themes directory and Activate the Theme from WordPress Admin Panel.
The Theme installs with the basic layout in place. You can configure the Home Page using the Themes Options Panel.
If you want to build a blog, use the Template Type as "Blog Page" from the Page Attributes Section within the Add new Page section. The blog would come up in the page you created.
The process is similar for creating the Contact us page and the gallery page. In the gallery page you need to upload the images using the upload image buttons and just have to save the changes. Nothing is needed to be appeared in the page as you hit publish, a nice gallery would come up.

    It’s not a free WordPress available in the wordpress/extend/themes/direcotry/ It’s a third party theme from the URL right there: support.inkthemes.com

    I know inkthemes.com is solid and above question.
    Forgive me for being pedantic; is it correct to say that no-one other than inkthemes.com or WordPress would make the Colorway theme available, for example, on a freebie website?
    This brings me back to my original comment, gleaned from a WordPress forum, in which the comment was made that downloaded themes are amended with some minor code change (intended to secure passwords, etc) and then uploaded to a freebie website for naive newbies to download.

    Well, hacking has as more to do with your webhost and insecure third party plugins rather than themes. Use a good webhost and keep updated. See Recommended WordPress Web Hosting
