HELP! I installed the UpdraftPlus yesterday and successfully ran a backup. This morning I upgraded my version of WP to 4.1. Then I installed a new plug-in.

The site seemed to behave strangely after the new plug in so I tried restoring the site to the backup I performed yesterday. But when I did so, I received a message, “Your WordPress installation has a problem with outputting extra whitespace. This can corrupt backups that you download from here. Please consult this FAQ for help on what to do about it.”

I tried what the FAQ suggested, including disabling the plugins but that did not work. I’m not a WP expert so can anyone advise me as to what to do so I can roll the site back? Right now my blog is completely down with an error message (https://bit.ly/1s7bEXC)

    Thank you in advance!!

    Hi mickapoo,

From another post with the same problem (here) and the guide, this should only affect downloading your backup files through the UpdraftPlus dashboard. If you just intend to restore your backup using the ‘Restore’ button, then you shouldn’t have a problem.

Have you tried switching to a default theme, as well as disabling the other plugins?

Yes, I did try those other things you mentioned.

So this morning (AFTER the backup) I did upgrade my version of WordPress. Is this going to mess anything up if I try the restore function? I’ll be restoring everything from yesterday when I had a different version of WP. Would it be better to contact my hosting company and have them do a restore of everything just as it was yesterday?

    Thanks for your help.

The restore should overwrite all changes that you made, including the version upgrade. After the restore completes (assuming it was successful), click the link at the bottom of the page to return to the UpdraftPlus dashboard. You should get a WordPress screen saying the database needs updating. Click OK, and everything should be back to how it was.

Remember to select everything for restoration.
    Hope this helps. Good luck!

Did you manage to fix this? The link seems to show your blog is up now.
