I have an existing website at:
    https://examplesite.com/

I then added WordPress with Yoast SEO to a subfolder:
    https://examplesite.com/blog/

Now my sitemaps look like this:
    https://examplesite.com/sitemap.xml
    https://examplesite.com/blog/sitemap_index.xml
    https://examplesite.com/blog/page-sitemap.xml

Is this the correct setup or should the /blog/ sitemaps be referenced in the root sitemap.xml?

The reason I’m asking is because all pages that are in page-sitemap.xml are not being indexed by Google at all.

Also, when i use for example Screaming Frog SEO Spider, it never finds any of the pages in /blog/.

    My robots.txt looks like this:

Here’s a screenshot from my Google Search Console / Sitemaps:

    Thanks for taking a look!

    Hello @rodandreel,

Thanks for reaching out regarding your sitemaps. The root domain is treated as a separate WordPress installation from the subfolder. As such, you should have two separate properties in Google Search Console. Next, you will submit only the /sitemap_index.xml/ under each property accordingly. In one of the screenshots, you have submitted /sitemap_index.xml/ and /sitemap.xml/ under the wrong property.

Regarding the robots.txt file, the sitemap_index.xml URL of the main site and subdirectory is added in both cases.

The reason I’m asking is because all pages that are in page-sitemap.xml are not being indexed by Google at all.

Have you picked some of the oages and request indexing in Google Search Console? Reasons for not indexing will be provided.

Thank you for your reply @maybellyne

It appears i was just impatient. Pages have started indexing now. Slowly.
