• Hi, I don’t know if anyone can help, I recently updated the main banner on this site but as you can see, it doesn’t look very clear. I just wondered if there is a standard size for this theme that I’m missing, currently using the recommended size for a wordpress banner.

I was also wondering if it’s possible to change the information that’s displayed in the mini banners that overlay the grid images in this theme – currently displays the date.

    Thanks in advance

    Kate

  • Hi Kate!

Hi, I don’t know if anyone can help, I recently updated the main banner on this site but as you can see, it doesn’t look very clear. I just wondered if there is a standard size for this theme that I’m missing, currently using the recommended size for a wordpress banner.

The theme recommends a header image that is 1048 × 214 pixels.

Since Apostrophe is designed for a large custom header that takes up 100% of the available width on all devices, the header image may be resized depending on the device it’s being viewed on. Any resizing of an image will lead to some loss in quality. For this reason, we recommend using header images that are more flexible, decorative or abstract, so that they can handle this sort of resizing.

If your image contains details or text that can’t tolerate any resizing or quality loss, I recommend considering using it as your site logo rather than a header image. The logo is designed for more detailed images.

I was also wondering if it’s possible to change the information that’s displayed in the mini banners that overlay the grid images in this theme – currently displays the date.

There isn’t a built-in way to change that information but, if you’re fairly comfortable with PHP and HTML, you could consider following the guidance here to create a child theme:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/uploading-setting-up-custom-themes/child-themes/

You’d be able to change the theme’s underlying code and edit the information that displays in that banner via a child theme.

As an extra note: I noticed that your site is hosted over at WordPress.com while this forum is intended for folk who are hosted elsewhere and running on the free software available here at www.remarpro.com.

The difference between the two types of WordPress (WordPress.com and www.remarpro.com) is an understandable and common point of confusion. If you’re unsure of the differences, then this guide gives a good overview.

As you’re on a paid plan over at WordPress.com, the contact form is the best place for you to access private support. If you have any extra questions then please contact support here:

    Thanks!
