• I have a question regarding copyright.

I have used a premium WordPress theme to teach myself how to write a theme. The theme I’ve now created looks totally different to the original and I have added some of my own css.

However, some of the css from the original theme is still in there.

How do I stand when it comes to copyright on this? Should I rename some of the div files, or is it ok as the design itself is different?

  • Depends on the license that theme was released under. If you don’t know, ask the theme author.

There are arguments that any WordPress theme is based on WordPress code and should be licensed under GPL.
