• I am working on setting up notification bars for business closures for every federal holiday in the US. That’s 11 notifications on one site with automated start and end date/times. I need to do this to over a dozen sites. Is there any way to set them all up on one site, then export and import on the other sites? Then I could just customize the content for each holiday on each site without having to recreate all of the holidays and settings on each site individually. This would be a huge time saver if it would work.

    Hi @digitalkristen

There is no import/export function built into FooBar, but each bar is stored as a custom post type with metadata, so in theory you should be able to use the built-in WP export import tools under the Tools menu to export the bars to an XML file, and then import that XML into your other sites.

I have never tested this, but would be a good idea to try out.

Please let us know if that works for you?

I have completed one site and checking the Tools > Export page, there is a “Notifications” option radio button. It does export all of the notifications, but it also contains a lot of site-specific data, including the _Site-Name, _site-url, _site-logo, notification link full URL, that sort of stuff. I can send you the export privately but since it is a client’s sensitive sector website, I don’t want to post all of the details publically.

I may try changing the site-specific data using a find-and-replace and see if I can copy it over to another site that way. I will keep you posted.

So it kinda worked. It did make notifications for each list item in the export file, but it did not save any options for any of the notifications. So I still have to go through and manually set up each one, the only thing that imported properly was the notification name. That being said, it DID set up a new notification for each item in the list, and the name imported successfully. Just nothing else. It would be really nice to have an export/import utility that could actually handle exporting all notifications from one site and import them on another site, pick the user to attribute them to, not bring over data from the previous site (like the site URL, etc), and just boom! Have new working notifications on the second site, and third, and fourth, and fifth, etc.
