"Copy to" another gallery fails for SOME images…

I have a master gallery of images composed of several categories of images. I created this gallery so I could transfer selected images to other galleries for display. The first time I copied 20 images to a brand new gallery, three of them gave this error:
Image 1691 (57.jpg) copied as image 0 (copy_0_57.jpg) ? The file already existed in the destination gallery.
It can’t exist in a new gallery and there are no duplicates in the database.
Anyone else having this problem?
