• Hi. I’ve got a wordpress blog on one site and would like to copy over the exact settings, including pages, categories, etc. What is the best way to do that? Thanks!

  • If it’s WP 2.3 and up (it really should be either 2.0.11 or 2.5.1; those are the only two supported/stable versions), you can use the export feature to export the old blog’s settings (including options, comments, posts, pages, etc.) to an *.XML file. Stash this on your hard drive. Then set up a fresh install of WP on the second blog and import the *.XML file. You may lose some settings, most notably the form settings in cFormsII, but it has its own backup feature which you should use prior to such a move. But all your categories and posts and such come over without problem.

You will have to use FTP to copy your plugins and themes.

    HTH.

Thanks Joni, that worked fine. I do have another question but I’ll post it separately. Nice pic, by the way. From a photographer, that is.
