Copy events to testing site

I would like to set up a testing site so I can play with the new views and see if I can get something that looks like the legacy views. However, when I install the plugins on the testing site I don’t have any events. I would like to import some events form the regular calendar. Can someone tell me the best way to do this? Is it a database copy or something easy?
