• Hi all,

I’m new to WordPress and I’ve just finished building a new theme. All I did was copy & paste the original theme (Twenty twelve) and modified it to suit my client.

I have named the folder simply “default” and have also set it to “active” in the administrator, but the site is still using the original theme and won’t switch to my custom one. I deleted the two original themes that come with WP so that only mine was left, but then the site simply stopped working altogether (just a blank page displayed).

However, if I login as an administrator the theme becomes activated until I log out, whereupon the original Twenty twelve theme takes over.

What might be causing this? I want to delete the original themes from the server and just have my custom theme.

    Thanks for reading.

  • Do not call your custom theme “default”. Use another name. And never, EVER, delete the default WordPress theme (currently Twenty Twelve). Having access to an original, unedited, copy of the theme is vital in many situations.

Thanks for a quick response. Renaming the theme worked, problem is fixed. Thanks for the tip as well!
