Cookies and a sitewide login

I’d like to add a little login section to my friend’s sidebar. His site is betrayer.wiredotaku.com. I’ve already figured out how to add more content in the theme, and a login area has been added. A cookie problem exists, however, so is there a way to reroute the default cookie directory to allow logging in from the home page?
