Cookies

Hi! The plugin uses randomly generated cookie names and values and does not store any personal or sensitive data in those cookies. Is there a reason to mention that in any privacy policy?

Thanks for your reply. My client has bought a privacy and cookie policy from a UK law site and it specifically asks for names of all cookies used. Maybe a bit over the top!

Well this is related to New GDPR EU regulation. Now for all website that are in EU and who have clients from EU, must declare all cookie used and for what are they used.

I understand but I’m not sure that the new regulation contains any mentions of cookies. It’s a technical term. By the way, there is another entity in a user browser that can store personal data and it’s called “Web storage”. How should we handle this? I think that for a legal purpose we have to clarify what personal data we process and how we store and protect it. I think that in a privacy policy we do not need to explain using cookies with no personal data or any data that allows to identify a person.

I see, thanks for the link. Is there a requirement that cookie names must be listed in a privacy policy? There is only the following paragraph about possibility.

Natural persons may be associated with online identifiers provided by their devices, applications, tools and protocols, such as internet protocol addresses, cookie identifiers or other identifiers such as radio frequency identification tags. This may leave traces which, in particular when combined with unique identifiers and other information received by the servers, may be used to create profiles of the natural persons and identify them.

Anyway, WP Cerber does not use cookies to store any personal identifiers.
