If a user clicks on the REJECT button in the cookie law banner, I think they expect that no cookies will be applied. However I see that the Cookie Law plugin actually leaves some –

    cookielawinfo-checkbox-cookie-law
    viewed_cookie_policy

    for instance.

I have listed these cookies in the config and put them in a category. However I have no script for the category – do you provide one? I can’t find any.

    Thanks

    Hi @ahardy42,

Those cookies are the ones used by this plugin to manage user consent and they are strictly necessary cookies. You can read about them in the plugin readme itself.

You must leave the in the ‘necessary’ category itself.

    Hi Web Toffee,

thanks for the reply but you have just caused my mind to melt ??

Unfortunately according to my understanding of the GDPR law, there is no such thing as a “strictly necessary” cookie, so hitting the Reject button should prevent 100% of all cookies and therefore cause the cookie banner to appear on every page load.

I’ll check up on this with my colleagues who might know more about it and get back to you. If it’s true, then I’ll have to find a replacement for this otherwise great plugin ??

    Hi @ahardy42,

Please refer to this article. Hope this will give you the assurance you are looking for.

Oh I see – it really is spectacularly badly worded by the, well, whole world. Everyone should be saying “identification cookies”, and not just “cookies” as though there’s no exception.

    Thanks.
