Cookie consent for logged out users

  • I have google analytics with anonymized IP on, my users can activate and deactivate google analytics cookies at any time.

    BUT, on top of that, according to GDPR I would need to collect and store records that cookie consent from a particular user was obtained.

    Well, lets say “user A” has agreed for my website to use cookies and later on “Mr XXX” who is actually “user A” is trying to be funny and he has emailed me saying he will complain to ICO as he can see these cookies are set but he has not provided a consent.

    Because the IP is anonymized and user is not registered/logged in, I could not prove that the guy emailing me has actually provided consent as “user A” and “Mr XXX” are not associated according to my records, whilst they are actually the same person.

    Do you plan any changes to the plugin to also track consent for logged out users? Obviously, it would be difficult to associate consent to any person, so not quite sure how to achieve this. But it sounds like something everybody trying to be GDPR compliant would need.

    Any regulating office will check on this and try to reproduce the problem.
    If they can’t, all is good.
    If they do not provide consent and you still set the cookie and they judge that this is particularly not essential for the site to run, they will notify you to fix the issue.

    There’s only so much that can be done.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your help, can you also please look into the other issue I had on thread “consent stored”. I still cannot get any text to appear when reconsent request appears on the screen.
