Hi,

For a while I’ve been having a problem with my blog, and only now I’ve realised what the trigger is.

If I scroll to the very bottom of the page, the website stops responding. Sometimes I can scroll up again, but the links won’t work. After a while, a message saying the page is not responding appears (I’ve tried with Chrome, Edge and Firefox).

After inspecting a little more, I have realised that, in normal conditions, scrolling to the bottom triggers the appearance of a little pop up at the bottom-left side with a link to config cookie options.

I am under the impression that the script or whatever it is that manages this pop up is causing the page to stop working.

I’ve tried disabling other plugins, deleting cache, deactivating and reactivating Site Kit to no avail. Is there anything else I can try, or could I, at least, disable this pop up in the hopes that the problem goes away? (Of course, if I permanently disable Site Kit, then the problem doesn’t happen.) Thank you.

Hi @carlos_wp,

Thanks for reaching out. I’ve checked your site and I don’t encounter a cookie popup at present. It may be conditional, or you may have made some changes. Regardless, if you want to share a screenshot or recording of what you’re experiencing, along with your Site Health information we’d be happy to assist. You can use a service such as RecordIt or Loom to share a screen recording.

Note also that we can only assist with Site Kit related queries, if you find that your cookie plugin isn’t working as expected with Site Kit it may be a question for the respective cookie plugin.

Hi James,

Thanks for your reply. Not sure why you don’t encounter a cookie popup when visiting my site ??, anyway, I’ve used your link to submit the info, but I will repeat it here:

? A short video showcasing the problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wtk5uXB8cFY

? My Site Health – I can’t copy to clipboard but here’s a screenshot: https://snipboard.io/vGKdMR.jpg
(regarding Site Health, it always says my site is dying, I do what I can but it was already like that a long time ago, so not sure if it has something to do with this).

Thanks for looking into this!

It’s odd, but I checked just now, and the link to Configure cookie consent etc. is appearing as a line of text beneath the footer of the page. ???? And most importantly, now the page keeps working even after I scroll down to the bottom.

This is how it looks right now: https://snipboard.io/OqWbsc.jpg

I don’t understand, a while ago it looked different (and triggering the “page not responding” issue), is there an explanation for this? Anyway, at least now it works perfectly, so I hope it stays like this! Thanks.

@carlos_wp Thanks for your updates and glad to hear this is now working without any issues. We have seen these types of cookie banners appear in the past as a result of an AdSense GDPR setting. You can find this setting in the Privacy and Messaging section. That will enable a consent popup on your site. You may have had this setting switched on.

If you do encounter any further issues please do let us know and we will be happy to help where we can.

Hi, it seems like the same issue is happening again… when I scroll to the bottom of the page, and some kind of cookie consent links should show up, they don’t and the page stops working.

I do have the Adsense GDPR set to display the cookie consent message, but it was already set like that before, and it worked.

I am at a loss. It just worked ok, and since a few days ago, it is not working properly again (when scrolling to the bottom of my site).

The last time it just fixed itself, don’t know if it was some update or what.

If anybody can suggest anything, it would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Just some extra info… I’ve been looking into the Privacy and messaging options of Adsense like Adam suggested, and I’ve found that there might be some problem with the message for the consent revocation link, or at least it doesn’t look like the other messages. Here’s a video showing it (sorry, it’s in spanish, but I hope it’s easy to follow anyway):

Assuming it’s indeed an issue with that link, I assume it’s related to google but not directly related to Site Kit. Or is it anyway? Where could I ask for help? Thanks.

Thanks for the update @carlos_wp, and for sharing your findings into the AdSense platforms privacy feature. Did you try reaching out in the AdSense Help Center for this?

(@carlos_wp)

Thanks James. After going through the usual set of hoops, and even being trapped in an endless loop, I’ve managed to post my question in the Adsense Help Center. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

I was going to say that I will have to wait, but since last time the problem went away just after posting here, maybe this time I would get lucky too. So, before pressing the “Submit” button, I’ve decided to check if the problem still happens, and guess what…

… it’s not happening! I can scroll to the bottom, the GDPR link appears, and everything seems to be ok. ??

I don’t know if this is a really weird coincidence, or someone reading this has changed something? Anyway, I just hope it keeps working. ??

Thanks again for helping me ??
