When I use & in a title in Rank Math and save the page, it is being converted to &Amp; so that then ends up showing up in search results instead of just “&”. Only seems to have recently just started happening.

    Hello @dalefortuna,

    Thank you for contacting support.

It’s accurate that when you add an ampersand it’s getting converted to the HTML entity but that is done to help keep the consistency between all browsers and search engines.

It’s well-known that Google will parse the HTML encoded characters correctly, provided they are inside the HTML source, which in this case they are.

Also, please note that the best practice is to encode the ampersand when using it inside the HTML markup.

We can share an example from our website where the HTML entity is in the source code, but Google is parsing it correctly: https://rankmath.com/kb/multilingual-seo-wpml/

Here’s the screenshot from Google: https://i.rankmath.com/i/hGAHej

Hope this helps clarify your doubts.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

But the &Amp; is showing up in the title bar of my browser & in the Google search results.

So in the search listings, all other websites have a “&” (as you would expect), yet mine displays &Amp; instead, even though I added & in RankMath.

This is definitely not normal behaviour.

Please advise how to fix this.

Hello, I am responding back because I have located a glitch in your plugin.

    If a meta title contains the following character: and also contains an & symbol, the & symbol is outputted to the browser title bar & search engines as &Amp;

If the ’ is removed, the & symbol displays fine. Hopefully, you can roll out a fix for this.

It is a known bug in the latest version. However, I do not understand why @rankmathteam did not mention it to you.

Thank you for your response @simkog , yes I was disappointed at the response I received because I knew it was not correct to have &Amp; display in search results. Glad that this issue will be getting resolved ??

    Hello @dalefortuna & @simkog,

Sorry for the confusion. We just noticed the bug report about the capitalize titles option. Since this was not mentioned, we didn’t consider that initially.

With that said, we have reported it internally, and the fix will be included in the upcoming update.

In the meantime, if there’s anything else we can help you with, please let us know.

    We are here to assist.
