converting?

Hello,
I’m doing an internship and I was given a test website to create a new homepage. This website is online but hidden. Now, my supervisor wants me to ask around if it’s possible for me to make the test website the official one and delete the old website – or if I have to transfer everything to the old website. Could you let me know what my options are on how to replace the website and how I would do it?
