• Hello everybody, I hope you are all well. This is my first time ever writing a question in WP forums.

My current home page is a default theme home page set to display “your latest posts”, however I want to change it to “static page” so that I can edit some things and improve my SEO and Security. Since my home page is not showing in “Pages” tab, I want to create a new page in “Pages” tab, name it the home page, and copy my whole theme home page to it so that I can use it as “static” home page. Is this possible and if it isn’t, is there a better alternative? Is there something I’m missing?

Thanks in advance for making the time to explain this to a fellow WP newbie. ??

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • You can set your home page to a static page under settings > reading settings. First create a page that you want to select to be the home page though. Most themes are to set to display specific content on the home page, others are not.

I know that. My question is How do I create a new page in pages tab and copy my whole front home page in there?

The default blog listing and a static home page involve entirely different queries. A blog query returns several posts, the number being whatever your posts per page setting is. A static query returns just the one page’s object and nothing more. If you still want a blog listing on a static page, you’ll need a custom template that queries for all the posts that you used to get automatically.

If you create a template and name it front-page.php, you could code it to output anything you like. If you start customizing templates, it’s best that they are contained within a child theme that you create.
