• I did an automatic upgrade after saving my site to XML. And now my site won’t come up properly. I am using WordPress as a CMS and blog. The main page was coming up as the blog. So I tried to fix that and now I can’t get into the admin page and the main page comes up with no CSS.

I can’t restore my site because the admin page will not come up. I get a 404 error

  • Try:

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin

    – renaming your current theme’s folder via FTP to activate the default theme.

OK, tried it. I renamed the folders as you suggested. Now I get a blank page when I try to access anything. Glad I saved my blog.

    Any ideas now?

Reupload the 3.0 files and, if that fails, put define('WP_DEBUG', true); in your wp-config.php file.

Do you have a twentyten theme folder in wp-content/themes?

    Thread Starter planet999

    (@planet999)

Yes, I have the twenty ten theme. But it did not pick it so I renamed the theme folder back (Bueno by Woo Themes).

I will try what Ipstenu says now

    (@planet999)

    Nope.

OK, here’s what messed me up the second time. I changed the setting of the url in the control panel to /blog which is where the blog is. But the wp-admin is in teh root so whenever I try to sign in it goes to the /blog and I get a 404. How can I fix that in the database? Where is it? I can go in through phpmyadmin and fix it.

Nevermind, I found it. So here is where I am at. Back to the original problem. For some reason it made my home page the blog page. It’s showing the content of the home page in the blog. And the blog is nowhere to be found. But the posts are all there. I need the blog page to come back up when I click the blog link.

I am assuming what it did was over write what I did when I set the blog as separate from the home page. I wanted to use WordPress as a CMS for the site and have blog entries run on a different page than normal

I have the reading settings set correctly. My static home page is home, my blog is “blog”. Did sometrhing change in 3,0 to screw something up?

What it’s showing is the “Home” page contest as a post, but it is not showing the posts in the post queue, which are still there.

Same thing, updated to 3.o today, update notice didnt appear on the dash, I foudn it in tools. Ran it now the homepage is WHITE, nothing there, I CAN get to the admin page fine. Backed up my posts, pulling plugins off the server now, and my Arras theme which was highly customized.

I’m about ready to trash the whole thing and start over.

It won’t reinstall, says failed, which is funny since when I first upgraded it it said it did fine.

I knew I should have waited a few weeks to do this, ugh!

Put define('WP_DEBUG', true); in your wp-config.php file. That’ll show you the errors.

The white screen has, so far, been traced to
    1) Incomplete upgrade (fixed by a manual upgrade)
    2) Incompatible plugins (Event Calender and a Podcast one)
    3) Insufficient memory with PHP (Add define('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M' ); to your wp-config.php)

Since you can get to your admin side, change your theme to twentyten and see if it loads.

What about the blog page not showing properly? Everything is set correctly as far as I can tell. The site works now except the blog page shows the home page content instead of my posts.

Honestly, I don’t know. I have a static home page setup and it works fine.

I’d try unsetting, saving, and then resetting, but … You did copy your theme back up and reactivate it, right?

    Thread Starter planet999

    (@planet999)

Yes, I reactivated my theme. And I tried resetting the blog page, but it goes back to showing the wrong thing. It’s weird. I used the XML save and recreated the blog on another domain and that works just fine. Same version of WordPress. Something is throwing this one off.

Yeah, that’s weird. Try deleting wp-admin and wp-includes and then re-upload from a fresh zip off here. Could be a bad upgrade.

I upgraded from within the dashboard and now nothing works. All my log in pages are blank white.

Even some advice how to return to WP 2.92 would be appreciated because as things stand, I have no access to my site.
