You should never make changes to the UM Core scripts,
you will loose the changes at next UM update.

Thanks. I gather from your response that Ultimate Member does not provide access to that screen through its interface.

I guess the “Change English Text in Forms” you mentioned is durable even between version updates?

I have tried using “Say What” (a nice plugin in principle!) for the last 1/2 hour, and used a very simple text to be replaced (“Please check your inbox.” without the quotes), but it seems not to get replaced. I used context of “ultimate-member” without the quotes, as well as trying blank context. Still no change. Thoughts?

Both my suggestions are safe for updates.

You must use the entire text in “Say What?” Plugin.
This text should work:
