controlling post layout in tewentyseventeen

    how do i go about controlling the post layout in tewentyseventeen?

    on my latest posts page i have a grid with the latest posts each with a small picture which is the set featured image which is all fine.
    but when i go into the actual post page the feature image appears at the top of the page in a banner type box and it can be badly sized i.e really big.

    how do i turn off the feature image on the post page but keep it connected to the post in the latest posts grid page?

    note i am using elementor to construct my pages
