Control maximum articles in One-Column Blog section

Hi there!

I have my theme in one-column format on the front page which is great. However, I would like to limit the number of recent blogs that it shows from the current three down to one or maybe two and increase the amount of content that is shown (either the whole post, or the ‘more’).

Any help greatly appreciated.
