• Hey all,

I’m wondering if/where you can manually control how the images of the featured content (shown in the slider) are cropped?

At present it’s totally random how the images are cropped – and it doesn’t always look nice. Seems like WordPress is doing the cropping automatically.

Is there any way to control this manually?

    Please enlighten me, thanks ??

    Kind regards,
    E

  • Hi,

It’s important that you always crop images on same dimension in photoshop befor upload. Recommended format for featured images is minimum 1038 by 576 pixels.

Quick Specs (all measurements in pixels)

The main column width is 474.
Featured images work best with images that are least 1038 wide.
The primary sidebar (left) width is 162.
The secondary “content” sidebar (right) width is 306.
Widgets in the footer widget area are 255 wide.
The header image size is 1260 wide and 240 high.
Single image pages are full-width and 810 wide.

    Hi Medians,

    Thank you for your reply.

Actually I have tried cropping my images in the exact same dimensions as the slider before upload (my slider is 1260 x 300 px).
However during the upload process the images are still auto-cropped by WordPress, which means that the whole image is not shown in the slider (only a smaller cropped part of the image).
And since the image, which originally had the exact dimensions of the slider, has now been cropped smaller by WordPress, the image is being stretched to fill out the slider.

I don’t understand why WordPress is still cropping the image, when the image has the exact dimensions of the slider and hence does not need to be cropped.

My website is not online yet, so unfortunately I can’t post a link.

Is there no way to manually control how (or if) the images are cropped during upload?

When you inserting image to post try to select “Full Size”.

I tried uploading this new image as “featured image” on my post:
    https://www.veganyespeas.com/temp/TEST-FULLSIZE-FEATURED-IMAGE.jpg
The image is exactly 1260 x 300 px, like the slider itself, so there should be no need for cropping.

However, when uploading featured images, I don’t get the option to select full size, like displayed in your image.
    Here’s what it looks like:

And here’s how the image looks like in the slider.

As you can tell, the image has still been cropped and stretched in spite of having the exact dimensions as the slider. Not much, but some.

    Haaalllp … :/
