Continuous Error

  • Subject: Fatal error: Cannot redeclare function my_function()

    Body:

    I am a WordPress user and I am currently experiencing an error on my website. The error message is “Fatal error: Cannot redeclare function my_function()”.

    I have tried the following to fix the error:

    • Deactivated all of my plugins
    • Switched to a default theme
    • Updated WordPress to the latest version
    • Contacted my hosting provider

    However, the error persists.

    My WordPress version is 5.9.3 and I am hosted by Bluehost.

    I would be grateful if someone could help me to fix this error.

    Is there any improvement under WordPress 6.3.1, or at least 5.9.7?

    At 5.9.3, you have several already fixed bugs and publicly known security vulnerabilities.

    Hi and thanks for reaching out! As we are not developers, we will be limited in how much support we can provide for this issue, however, we wanted to reach out to provide some guidance. The first thing we would recommend is getting a good look at your error log for your website. This article has instructions on how to do that:

    This may give you a better idea of which files are causing the error and maybe give you somewhere to start. While we can’t diagnose the issue, the error sounds like you have a duplicate function in your website files. This could mean you have the same function in two files or in two places in the same file. Or the file defining the function is included twice. You may want to do some more research on the particular error and any possible solutions online. A WordPress developer may also be able to provide further guidance.
