• I just upgraded to the latest version of this plugin and running php 5.6 and the latest version of WP.

I tried to rebuild the index in Relevanssi and it just continues to show that it is indexing. It shows that there are 875 posts yet it is currently up to 12215 posts that were indexed and still going.

Any ideas of what is going on here?

First of all: PHP 5.6 is dangerously old, and WordPress is dropping PHP 5 support this year. I recommend you upgrade to PHP 7 as soon as possible.

Anyway, that should not cause problems with Relevanssi. For starters, I’d recommend a hard refresh on the indexing page to make sure you’re using the latest JavaScript files for Relevanssi, and not some old version from your browser cache.

If that does not help, then there’s likely some plugins or theme functions that are interfering with the indexing.

    Thanks @msaari

I did a hard refresh on the index and it still has the same problem. I then deactivated the plugin and the regular search works. While the plugin was active it returned zero results.

None of the other plugins have changed and the older version of your plugin was working.

We plan to upgrade to the latest version of php once some other changes are made to our site.

If Relevanssi returns zero results, then the indexing hasn’t worked at all. There’s something wrong with the indexing process, but it’s really hard to say what without knowing anything about your site. Something’s messing up the indexing but what?

Previous versions of Relevanssi are here. Does reverting back to an older version fix the issue? I would also suggest disabling other plugins to see if one of them is somehow disturbing the indexing.
