contextual_help is deprecated error

  • When the sermon manager plugin is active on my site, I get a message stating the following:

    Deprecated: contextual_help is deprecated since version 3.3.0! Use get_current_screen()->add_help_tab(), get_current_screen()->remove_help_tab() instead. in /home/lakedev/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 5148

    If I deactivate the Sermon Manager plugin the message goes away, so it seems to be an issue with Sermon Manager. This message is only shown in the admin panel, so it isn’t an urgent issue, but I don’t like to see errors or warnings in my dashboard.

    Plugin version: 2.16.0
    WP version: 5.5
    PHP version: 7.0.33

  • I’ve never seen that. Maybe a plugin conflict or theme conflict? I’m using a newer version of PHP (7.4.6), so maybe that’s why we don’t see it.

    Hmm, interesting. I tried disabling all the plugins on the site except for the Sermon Manager one and it still shows that message. As for theme, I’m using version 2.5.4 of the Astra theme.

    I do need to get the PHP version updated, so I will try that as well.

    I just downloaded Astra on our test site and I didn’t get that error.

    Hmm, ok. I’ll may have to wait to update my php version then, it would appear I’m on too old an ubuntu distro to update it. We are planning to move servers soon, and I’ll try again then.

    Thank you for the tips and for checking the Astra theme on your test site.
