Content Toggle Blocks Not Accessible to Screen Readers
-
One of our staff members tested webpages with Content Toggle blocks for accessibility, and they found that JAWS reads out the panel titles like paragraphs, with no indication to users with visual impairments that they need to interact with the title to open the panel content. The chevron state indicator is a span element that’s purely decorative, rather than a button with the aria-expanded attribute that screen readers can recognize and use to announce changes to the page.
Because our organization provides services to U.S. colleges and universities, accessibility is extremely important and non-negotiable. We won’t be able to use these blocks until they’re accessible to all users.
