Content restriction for files

    Dear UM team,

    I’ve realized that when restricting access to a file, it is actually only the media page/post of the file that is restricted, but not the file itself. That means that anyone can access the file.

    I’d like to upload PDFs into the member area that must only be visible to members. Is there a way to also restrict the access to these PDFs?

    Files uploaded to profiles via the File Upload field do not come to the Media Library. You have to use the field settings to manage its visibility and privacy.

    Thanks for your reply. I think what you’re describing is not a solution to my question. What I’d like to do: Upload PDFs to the media library (or to another folder) that I can make accessible to members via links in the member area. The members can click on a link to view/download the PDF. Only logged in users can view/download the PDF. How can I do this?

    There are no tools to upload files to the Media Library and to control access to the Media Library files in the Ultimate Member plugin. The “Content Restriction” feature can control access to the attachment post associated with the file but does not influence direct link to the file.

    Try to hide a block with PDFs links for logged out users. You can wrap this block with the [um_loggedin] shortcode, or use a content restriction tool for the Gutenberg block.

    Dear Yuriina,

    There actually is a plug-in that allows access restrictions on the files itself: User Access Manager. Check it out ?? Maybe you wanna implement something similar in UM.

    By the way, the plug-in I referred to is the “User Access Manager” by Alexander Schneider.

    A restriction of the media files accessed by direct links will not be added in the next release. Maybe this feature will be added in the next major release.
